Many students across our school use Read&Write. They may be dyslexic, they may be slower at processing text or require their screen to be an alternative colour. We have 90 exam laptops that all have Read&Write on for when students with Access Arrangements are completing their exams. The students find that the use of Read&Write dramatically improves their grade as they can listen to the questions carefully and repeat them as many times as need be. They can change the speed of the voice as well as the sound of the voice so they can really tailor it towards themself. As per school policy, all PCs across our network have Read&Write installed and all Google accounts have the extension pushed out to them. Therefore, Read&Write is accessible anytime and any place for any member of staff or student.
  • Allows an equal playing field for all students of all abilities.
  • Has the ability to scan documents in of any condition (OCR).
  • Extremely customisable, (voices, colours, speeds etc.).
  • Exam mode is amazing.
  • You can only open PDF reader for a maximum of two documents at a time.
  • Documents over 30 pages struggle to scan sometimes and cause the program to crash.
  • Struggles to read the periodic table.
Read&Write is well suited as it allows all students, no matter their ability, to complete work on a level playing field.
It will read any text no matter how big or small.
Screen masking ensures that students with the low processing speeds or sight struggles can access the same work as anyone else.

We use Read&Write across our school board to support all our teachers and students. We encourage whole classroom use of the tool to support literacy development. We also subscribe to Orbitnote and Equatio.
  • Word prediction
  • Speech to text in English
  • The highlighting tools!!
  • Picture dictionary
  • word prediction in French
  • I would love to see the ability to have multiple highlights from various webpages merge onto one Google doc
I prefer Read&Write based on its ease of use for students compared to other tools. Having so many tools in one place that work across multiple environments is invaluable. I also appreciate the constant improvements such as language profiles and the Orbitnote ORC scanner etc..

We use Read&Write to provide oral accommodations to students who would not otherwise have access to having their work read aloud. We are a tiny district and if the aide who normally reads tests aloud for students is pulled to cover a class or assist elsewhere, the teacher cannot leave the students in the classroom to go read in another location. Read&Write allows each student to have the level of reading support they need in real-time in their seat where they are most comfortable. It also allows students to receive help when they need the help, whether after school hours or in another classroom.
  • Read aloud selections
  • Read aloud papers that the student has generated
  • provide highlights for important points
  • I would like to see the read feature first in the line up. then the other options further down.
Read&Write is the perfect solution for students to use to meet the reading aloud assignments and exams for their IEP & 504 paperwork. It allows the students to practice when it is convenient for them, not just when the teacher and/or aide is available to help. It also provides specific assistance during other assignments.

I am a trainer for a school district. I train students and staff in the appropriate use of Read&Write. Depending on the needs I might focus on using speech to text and playback to write and edit simple sentences. Or, I might focus on using Read&Write online to do research more efficiently and take notes. Then we would use the tools to re-write the notes and possibly write the final version using prediction or speech to text. For staff I might demonstrate how to use Read&Write to create lesson plans and resources more quickly and efficiently while also having them support students who need to use Read&Write to access the curriculum.
  • It is a game changer for working online and removing ads and simplifying pages.
  • Having the ability to create user profiles for different languages is amazing
  • The prediction tool along with the dictionaries/translation tool really help English Language Learners access the learning
  • Speech to text and playback are a great combination for writing and editing documents efficiently
  • Sometimes the tools are laggy. Especially the playback button. This causes students to stop using it.
  • Whenever Google updates chrome, Read&Write tends to develop more glitches. It would be great if more open communication between TextHelp and Google was started to avoid the weeks of disruption to student learning
  • The simplify page tool is often glitchy when used on online articles. This has been the case since a major Google upgrade about 18 months ago. About 50% of the time the article is not simplified...only the comments from the article appear on the simplified page.
Read&Write is an excellent tool for use in school. Regardless of the grade level, it can easily be used by any student. Teachers can also benefit from using the tools to increase the efficiency of their prep. It can be used to start basic reading and writing tasks, or for researching in high school.

I begin teaching students the tools in grade 3 for composition, editing, and reading. I teach every 3rd grader and then remind all the grade 3-6 teachers to include my videos and resources in their Google Classrooms. I'm the point person to find glitches in our district as well, and have worked with your team to get to the bottom of such glitches. Unfortunately, after 16 years the budget has cut my position in district. I'm unsure how the software will continue to be utilized without an integration specialists helping teachers and students. I feel like I've been the biggest advocate for the software and now am worried that it will go underutilized. I've created, taught, and integrated TextHelp products into the very fabric of our curriculum. I hope it's enough. Please reach out to me for more. I've done the most work around your software than any other.
  • Helps students compose.
  • Helps students edit.
  • Helps students read comfortably.
  • When a tool doesn't work as intended, it can tank the whole lesson. At times, it's a ton of back and forth with Text help to alleviate the issues.
  • The tools are amazing, but I had to figure out the best way to teach students to use them in both reading and writing, and by age group.
Read&Write is the best software I would recommend to any district. I've recommended and argued against spending money in [...] to 100s of companies. Read&Write is the only one I put a hard foot down; it is the one product I have always insisted on. The ties to SBA are incredible; this is also an area which I've created the connection to for my district. Again, I worry what happens starting next year.

Read & Write is used with many of the dyslexic students. The cost of the software does limit the widespread use to all that actually need it.
  • automatically populates to screen
  • highlights words as it reads a passage
  • online dictionary
  • Cost is too prohibitive
  • I'm going to miss Fluency Tutor
  • downsize the pop up menu/bar
It's an amazing software that is so helpful for dyslexic learners.

Texthelp is used all across our school district, primarily with Read and Write. We use this tool with students to individually focus on and help support their reading and writing. In special education, the tools available especially assist with the specific needs of students. The Read and Write Chrome extension is great for our Chromebook 1:1 in the district, providing tools like text-to-speech, highlighting, and simplifying the task of reading. EquatIo has also been a newly adopted math tool that has been great in our district, especially with our 1:1 program.
  • The highlighting feature has been loved by our staff and allows students to identify items as they go along and read.
  • Text-to-speech has been an important tool in our special education classes and allows differentiation in general ed as needed.
  • EquatIo has replaced a tool that no longer exists, allowing our students to created equations and formulas in Google Docs.
  • There have been a few bugs when launching EquatIo that just need to be cleaned up to remove frustrations from staff while using.
  • Nothing else, it's a really simple to use tools that enhance learning and teaching!
Texthelp creates amazing tools that are great for schools and education, especially with students in special education classes or who have specific needs to assist their learning. With a 1:1 initiative, the tools also support differentiation and personalized learning.

We use R&W with all students in our district from K-12. I am not on the business end of this, so I am unaware of any business issues. I support students and staff in using these supports to help increase independence and success in the classroom.
  • wide range of literacy supports/tools that are equally developed and helpful.
  • I particularly appreciate the highlight and collect highlight tools. They help with a variety of needs.
  • The ease of use is amazing, along with the integration with Google environment.
  • These powerful supports are embedded so well that students who like to look like their typical peers don't mind using them in the classroom.
  • The text-to-speech option sometimes gets glitchy. The sound doesn't always match up to the visual feedback.
  • When creating lists of vocabulary, it is often difficult to highlight single words. Also, when using word lists, the last word is often left off.
This is the perfect option for k-12 schools. Kids who are hesitant to use AT tools in the classroom for fear of looking different are more open to R&W because it is seamlessly embedded within the Google environment. In addition, the low cost allows all students and staff to have these supports, regardless of need. No one is left out, which helps kids not look different in the classroom.

Texthelp is currently being used throughout our school district to help students personalize the learning experience by tailoring it to their individual needs. For teachers, Texthelp's Read and Write chrome extension is a tremendous tool to differentiate the classroom, affording students a simple way to highlight online texts, use text-to-speech, and simplify the reading of a page. Students often need ways to assist them with reading online texts, and students with disabilities are always in need of a variety of tools to assist them with their learning. Texthelp Read and Write helps address a number of their specific needs, taking advantage of 1:1 technology in schools.
  • The online text-to-speech reader within the Read and Write chrome extension works really well. Having used it a number of times with students, the reader works quickly and efficiently, highlighting the words it reads as it goes along. Users can also highlight the text or paragraphs they want the program to read.
  • There is an integrated talk and type feature that is simple to activate and easily listens to the user's speech to type into online documents or text fields. The program is quick, and offers students with physical disabilities another way to complete an assignment requiring written text.
  • I really enjoy the highlighters. Close reading and analysis is often a difficult skill to master, especially online. Texthelp's extension offers a way for students to highlight online texts, then collect all of the highlights into a new google document that they can edit. This is great during research assignments.
  • The text-to-speech works well, but could use a more humanistic voice. It is quite robotic. As well, as a feature to increase the read speed.
  • A feature to clean up the page for easier reading and printing would be a nice addition.
Texthelp Read and Write is best used with students with disabilities who need assistive technology to help them in school, but can be used with all students, as it is a great tool to help students with reading and writing online, as well as research skills with the highlight feature or the built-in dictionary and word prediction. With most schools going 1:1 with technology, a tool that can assist students when the teacher isn't there is a bonus, as well as having multiple tools integrated within. Texthelp is great for students who have sight issues, as you can adjust the color of the text or the background page. Students who struggle with a physical disability can utilize Texthelp's Talk and Type to put their thoughts on paper.
